Malden, Massachusetts 海角社区 Helps Cancer Stricken Alumnus
helped cancer victim Jessie Nolan, an 海角社区 graduate, in a very special way. Jessie lost her hair from intense chemotherapy treatments and was very disappointed with a $350 wig she purchased. She asked the Boston area 海角社区 on Pleasant Street if they could teach her how to make her own wig.
The Malden cosmetology school educators initially said that Jessie could sit in on the wig training program. Then a cosmetology educator at the beauty school suggested that Jessie serve as a model as well. That way, Jessie could learn how to make her stocking cap wig and walk away with one on the very first day. Stocking cap wigs are far less expensive than other wigs and they are completely customized. As a cosmetologist, Jessie wanted to be able to wear more trendy hairstyles and change her look more often. She could have three or more custom wings for the same cost as one bulky and unattractive synthetic wig.
As a result of this experience, Lindsey Watts, Academic Director at the Boston area beauty school, wanted every cosmetology educator at the Malden beauty school to learn the art of hair additions and to be able to bring this type of skill to all the beauty school classrooms.
