Ever seen the bumper sticker “If you can read this鈥� thank a teacher“? Educators are the pivotal cornerstone of our society. Without someone to show us the way, we as a society would not have experienced the cultural breakthroughs that have made this world a better place.聽 This includes the world of beauty!

Today marks the beginning of Educator Appreciation Week and to celebrate we would like to thank all our educators, who make Empire what it is. We are an Education company, teaching is our mission, helping others is our DNA. Educators make up the backbone of this organization. They are our leaders, our trainers and our guides. We owe them all a debt of gratitude for the efforts they put forth every day to help students on their path to success. It is our teachers that make us who we are and help our students transform into the professionals they will become.

Cosmetology is a demanding field; it requires an extensive amount of knowledge and years of practice to be the best. That knowledge and the foundation of that experience is given to us by our teachers. By someone willing to take the time to teach us how, explain why, and help us avoid the pitfalls of trial and error.

In recognition of all the great work and tremendous effort each and every one of our educators puts forth every day, we will be highlighting a few of our outstanding educators each day this week on our Facebook page, .

The top 3 finalists who came to NYC to vie for the Next Master of Beauty title are Kelly Hopkins from Richmond, VA (left); Camille Plourde from Milford, CT (center); and Lea Graves from Vancouver, WA (right). These 3 ladies are really down to earth, personable and a lot of fun鈥nd according to Nick, 鈥渢hey are all winners鈥�. They were also very supportive of each other.

At 11:00, Nick and his team took the stage to present his modern, multi-texture styles with his new , which highlights tomorrow’s most desirable looks. The 3 finalists anxiously stood close by watching Nick鈥檚 show knowing in 45 minutes they would be on that very stage. As Nick鈥檚 show started to wind down, the 3 finalists made their way backstage. After a brief聽 of the finalists, Nick and Frank introduced Kelly, Camille and Lea to the stage. You can feel the excitement around the stage from their families, friends and supporters.

Just then they began to reveal the results鈥�Lea Graves would take third place鈥inning $1,000, 3 Master of Beauty Skill Classes and a ticket to a Beauty Systems Group event. Nick and Frank then asked Camille and Kelly to step forward. 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽聽Who will it be??

As Camille and Kelly excitedly stood there Nick finally announced that Camille Plourde would take second place鈥� winning $2,500, 3 Masters of Beauty Classes and a ticket to a Beauty Systems Group event. Kelly Hopkins stood their in shock knowing she was just named the winner of the Next Master of Beauty.

Kelly not only has the title but she also wins $10,000, present on stage as a Platform Artist with Nick at a selected Masters of Beauty event, 3 Masters of Beauty Classes, 3 day Arrojo educational event and a ticket to a Beauty Systems Group event. Below is the video from the whole announcement:

Even though Camille and Lea did not win the first place prize, they are still thankful and honored for making it this far and the opportunities this contest has given them.

Later that afternoon, Frank Schoeneman invited the Next Master of Beauty winner, Kelly Hopkins, to sit down with him for a Frankly Speaking interview. is Empire鈥檚 new video series where Frank interviews industry鈥檚 movers and shakers to help inspire students to reach their full potential.

Kelly Hopkins is salon owner of and has been in the beauty industry since she was 16 years old and studied under her aunt and uncle in the industry. She has the support from her loving husband and 9 year old son. She told Frank, she is a goal setter. 聽鈥淚 first had the goal to get my license, then wanted to work in a busy spa salon and did it. 聽I then had the goal to open my own salon. 聽My salon has now been open for 2 陆 years. Then when I saw this contest I thought this is my next goal鈥� I can educate and be on a platform and teach others鈥�.

We are very proud of Kelly, Camille, Lea and all the people who entered and supported the contest. 聽On May 21st at we will be announcing the winner of the student contest, “The Master Apprentice“.

What better way to do that than with a pep talk from some of the top stylists in the world?

The video series, entitled 鈥楩rankly Speaking鈥�, includes 15 minute vignettes shown to all students in the company鈥檚 102 schools nationwide.聽 Each episode features an interview with a well known stylist or other beauty professional with an inspirational story to tell.

Recently, Mr. Schoeneman sat down with Beth Minardi, Nick Arrojo, John Simpson and others at New York City鈥檚 trendy Ink 48 hotel.

Each offered up advice to students, as well as shared their struggles along the way.

鈥淚 am so honored that each one of these very successful people was willing to spend a few hours with me.鈥� said Schoeneman. 聽鈥淓ach of them shared a wealth of knowledge with the next generation.聽 What a wonderful gift to provide to future stylists.鈥�

Color expert Beth Minardi stressed the need for professionalism in the industry.

鈥淚t鈥檚 so much more than doing hair,鈥� said Minardi.聽 鈥淚t鈥檚 the way we greet a person. The way she is seated, the way the towel is placed on her neck, the way she is spoken to.聽 This is no longer a service business.聽 We offer an experience.鈥�

John Simpson, educator and platform artist for Goldwell, encouraged students to keep an open mind.

鈥淓veryday opens a whole new door,鈥� said Simpson. 鈥淎nd that door could lead to a skylight. You just never know what is around the next corner.鈥�

Two-time Platform Artist of the Year and the star of Empire Education Group鈥檚 Masters of Beauty advanced education program, Nick Arrojo is still amazed at his success.

鈥淚t鈥檚 remarkable where I鈥檝e come from to where I am today, and I鈥檝e never been to business school.鈥� said Arrojo.

When asked for his number one piece of advice to students, Arrojo answered, 鈥淒on鈥檛 worry about what other people do or what they say.聽 This is your dream, your vision, your journey.鈥�
Also interviewed during the New York taping was Arrojo Studio stylist Nicole Obert DeMarco and Modern Salon鈥檚 Beauty and Fashion Editor, Maggie Mulhern.

Several Empire graduates and educators were also interviewed.

The videos will be incorporated into this year.
