Some things just go together. Milk & cookies, bread & butter, up & down, here & there鈥� and beauty school and Halloween. Hair, makeup and nails taken to extreme levels of creativity and craftsmanship, and at Empire, we start early.

October 1st we kicked off the 31 Days of Halloween Challenge. Each day, one Halloween inspired look created by one of our amazing students or alumni was chosen to showcase across our social media channels.

And our students did not disappoint. In fact, it was hard to choose just one to highlight each day!

Meanwhile, in Louisville, Kentucky our 海角社区 campuses were over-run with zombies for the 4th annual Zombie Crawl event at EBS Hurstbourne!

This yearly competition hosts students from all 3 Empire Louisville campuses and pits teams of students against each other to create the most terrifying zombie looks possible!

Requirements included creating an overall zombie concept, then transforming that idea on to a model or models to create a skit on the runway with music.

Local salons come to judge the students work and prizes are handed out for the first and second place teams. Nearly 100 students took part in the annual Halloween inspired event!

In Pennsylvania, our Pottsville campus put Halloween makeup to the test with a Face Off Challenge! A mix of spooky, cute, scary and dazzling looks dominated this competition. First, students chose an inspiration photo, then had to incorporate or re-create the look on half their face and half on their mannequin.  It鈥檚 not as easy as it looks!

Finally, we couldn鈥檛 just let our students have all the fun this Halloween! Plenty of our educators, campus staff, and home office staff joined in on the costume fun!

What makes Halloween so special at Empire is watching our students apply the techniques and skills they learn in school to create these amazing, over the top looks!

海角社区 in Providence, Rhode Island recently cut the ribbon on the newly opened school, as students and staff returned to the campus this June.

A special Grand Opening celebration highlighted education, summer trends, salon partnerships and local charities. Empire Chairman and CEO, Frank Schoeneman met with students, graduates, salons partners and staff at the event.

He also presented local anti-domestic violence program Sojourner House with a $1,000 donation.

Empire鈥檚 Education Team presented easy summer hairstyles with tips and tricks to students and guests. Current students highlighted their skills with a Summer Fantasy Showcase competition.

Great Clips awarded a $250 scholarship to a student, and the day wrapped up with an official ribbon cutting outside the campus!

Bordentown, NJ鈥� With just 49 hours to complete before graduation, Lilly Nejab was told her cosmetology school was shutting its doors.

鈥�It was very stressful and hard.鈥� says Nejab, who moved to the United States from Iran about a year ago.

As a licensed cosmetologist in her home country, she wanted to continue her career in the U.S., but needed to return to school to be eligible for a license in New Jersey.

鈥�I already have a position at a local salon. The only thing I need is to take my state board exam so I can be licensed.鈥�

However, Nejab needs to fully complete a cosmetology program before she can take the state exam. With just 49 hours of classroom time left, she was a week and half away from graduation.

鈥�They called and said that I needed to come and get any belongings I had at the school.鈥�

鈥淭he Lab鈥� a Paul Mitchell School shut its Ewing campus earlier this month, and reached out to Empire for assistance placing its students.

鈥�We immediately offered to meet with students from The Lab.鈥� says Tony Fragomeni, Vice President of Government Relations. 鈥�It鈥檚 unfortunate when any school goes out of business, so we do what we can to help the students caught in the middle.鈥�

So far 24 students, all with varying degrees of time to finish, will transfer to . More than 25 others could enroll at Bordentown or other beauty schools in the coming days.

It鈥檚 an option that students, like Denise Arthur-Smith of Ewing are thankful for.

鈥�I am happy I can finish my hours. I was impressed with Empire the moment I talked with the staff.鈥�

Arthur-Smith has just a little over a week to complete as well.

鈥�Although I won鈥檛 be here long, I am thankful for the chance to learn at Empire. Maybe I can come back as an educator one day!鈥�

One of the beauty industries most recognizable faces spent time with Empire students recently at America鈥檚 Beauty Show in Chicago, Illinois.

Tabatha Coffey has devoted her professional life to achieving excellence as a successful business woman, company owner, hair designer and educator. She is the star of Bravo鈥檚, Tabatha Takes Over, in which she helps struggling businesses regain their momentum.

Coffey held a special event exclusively for 海角社区 students during the ABS show in the Windy City.

Students from Empire campuses in the surrounding Chicago area attended the event.

Tabatha talked to the students about how to best market themselves, and what it takes to be successful. She also talked about how to overcome obstacles and persevere.

Tabatha was in Chicago for the world-renowned beauty exhibition known as America鈥檚 Beauty Show. With a 90 year history, ABS is owned and produced by Cosmetologists Chicago, a group of salon professionals working to strengthen the salon industry. Cosmetologists Chicago monitors and lobbies for professional licenses while providing advanced education and scholarships.

During the 3-day long expo, America鈥檚 Beauty Show offers a Student Day where current cosmetology students can attend at a discounted price.

It was during that day that Coffey decided to hold a special discussion in a private room for Empire students.
鈥�We were thrilled to be able to offer this special opportunity to our students.鈥� Says Elizabeth Tackett, Executive Director of 海角社区 in Hanover Park, Illinois. 鈥淚t was a wonderful way for students to hear first hand from a super star in our industry.鈥�

Tabatha鈥檚 fame first took root with her first series on Bravo named 鈥�Tabatha鈥檚 Salon Takeover.鈥�  Tabatha鈥檚 resume is a biography of a natural born hairstylist and business woman from the beginning of her career at age 14 in her native Surfer鈥檚 Paradise, Australia, to being chosen as 鈥�Fan Favorite鈥� on Shear Genius to her successful runs with Tabatha鈥檚 Salon Takeover.

Tabatha is devoted to the art of hair. Her work has been featured in numerous publications and Tabatha has been dubbed as the go-to girl for beauty inquiries throughout the world. Over the last 30 years, she has worked with the veritable who鈥檚 who of the industry in Australia, Great Britain and the United States. She has continuously developed, fine-tuned and broadened her skills as an artist, educator, and business owner.

In addition to regularly traveling around the world to educate stylists at hair shows, Tabatha also works closely to create the incredible hairstyles featured in advertising and trend collection imagery.

Students and staff at held a s special Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting celebration recently, to make a successful first year for the campus at its new location.

Now directly adjacent to Empire Education Group’s Home Office the school’s staff and students are providing critical feedback in the areas of curriculum, operations, facilities and marketing. 听Nearly 50 students made the transition to the new space late last year.

During the Grand Opening, Empire Education Group’s Chairman & CEO Frank Schoeneman presented Schuylkill Women in Crisis (SWiC) with a check for $15,000. 听The money was raised as a result of a combined effort between the Pottsville school and Empire’s home office staff on behalf of the Empire Gives Back campaign.

Students at the school received Cut it Out training the morning of the event. 听Cut it Out is a special class for salon professionals on how to recognize and respond to signs of domestic abuse.

The days ended with a fun-filled afternoon of live music, refreshments and games during an Open House, where the public was invited to come in, tour the school and inquire about a career in beauty.

Several special guests shared in the Grand Opening Celebration, including Pennsylvania Senator, Dave Argall and State Representative Jerry Knowles.

The activity put student’s hair, makeup and manicure skills to the test, creating trendy looks that look good on camera.

海角社区 in Cincinnati, OH recently partnered with the Hoxworth Blood Center and the Greater Cincinnati Be A Match (A bone marrow matching agency) in an effort to increase blood supply in the Greater Cincinnati area during the very critical 4th of July holiday weekend.

The School had over 50 students, friends and family participate in this great life saving effort. 听For each pint of blood collected, there can be as many as 3 recipients who receive blood product treatment.

A total of 25 pints of blood were collected at the drive, surpassing the goal of 24.

Empire Cincinnati is already planning its next event with the Ronald McDonald House in late August.

海角社区 students and staff in State College, Pa recently took part in the 44th Annual PA Special Olympics Summer Games held at Penn State’s Jeffrey Field.

Students volunteered their time and talents to help athletes feel good and look good while competing.

The students love working with the athletes and educators are told Empire is one of the most requested sponsors when athletes are asked what they would like to see next year.

State Representative Will Tallman of Pennsylvania’s 193rd District recently visited 海角社区 in Hanover, Pa. 听Tallman took a tour of the school and met with educators and several students. 听He talked at length with CPS, Jackie Barrick about Empire’s enrollment process and financial aid options.

While there, Rep. Tallman learned all about the cosmetology program, the length of time it takes to complete and what Empire offers that stands out from other schools.

For the 2013-2014 legislative session, Tallman has been appointed to serve on these four committees: 听Children and Youth, Education, Human Service and Veteran Affairs and Emergency Preparedness. 听He is also a member of the following caucuses: Agriculture, Community College, Consumer Affairs, Early Education, Career and Technical Education.

During his time at 海角社区 in Hanover, he commented on how much he had learned in just a short time from his visit.

Tallman represents parts of Adams County as well as Penn Township and Hanover Borough in York County, Pennsylvania.

海角社区 students from our Paramus, NJ campus volunteered their time recently at a local Bloomingdales’s department store. 听The retailer was having a prom promotio, and senior level students offered free beauty services to prom-goers.

The event is part of an ongoing partnership between 海角社区 in Paramus and Bloomingdales. 听The Students gain valuable experience outside the classroom, while promoting the industry through awareness of what beauty school students learn everyday.

Students from 海角社区 in Paramus are scheduled to help out with several more events at Bloomingdales during the next few months.

Empire Future Pro鈥檚 from Empire听Beauty School鈥檚 Boston, Massachusetts听campus lent their skills to a great听cause recently. 听With the help of educator, Karen听Andreottola, and Career Planning听Specialist Emily Peters, night students听provided hair and makeup at the 10th听annual 鈥楻ock the Village鈥� event.听Hosted by Allston Village Main Streets听at Brighton Music Hall, the money听raised at this benefit will go toward听efforts to make Allston Village a better听place to live, work, dine, shop, and own听a business.

Empire鈥檚 Future Pro stylists were so听professional, and skilled, the event听producers requested Empire back听next year. In fact, this was the best听hair/makeup team they have worked
with in many years! 听The Boston students had a great time听working with Allston Village Main
